Polypropylene (PP) film capacitors feature a dielectric made of polypropylene, an electrical insulation plastic.
The loss factor is at its lowest in PP capacitors in comparison to other film capacitors. That is why polypropylene film capacitors are used in frequency-determining applications. Most of these applications are polypropylene radio interference suppression or snubber capacitors and ensure that losses are kept low in systems. They are often used in alternating current applications since both pure and oil-soaked polypropylene film and PP/paper film capacitors exhibit high dielectric strength in the face of alternating currents.
