Understanding key parameters helps in selecting the right supercapacitor:
- Capacitance: Measured in farads (F), determines the energy stored at a given voltage. alfatec offers solutions up to 4000 F.
- Rated voltage: Maximum continuous operating voltage per cell (e.g., 2.7 V, 3.0 V, up to 5.4 V) or per module (e.g., 12 V, 48 V, up to 168 V). Exceeding this reduces lifespan.
- ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance): A critical factor for pulse power and voltage drop under load. Low ESR (e.g., 1.7 mΩ) is essential for high-performance applications.
- Energy density: Energy stored per unit mass or volume (Wh/kg or Wh/L). Higher than conventional capacitors, lower than batteries.
- Power density: Ability to deliver or absorb energy quickly (W/kg or W/L). Supercapacitors excel here—often 10× higher than batteries.
- Cycle life: Number of charge/discharge cycles before capacity drops significantly (e.g., to 80%). Typically >500,000 cycles.
