What Are KERATHERM® Gap Filler Liquids?

KERATHERM® Gap Filler Liquids are highly thermally conductive and electrically insulating two-component materials. Based on silicone or polyurethane (as a silicone-free option), they are applied as a cross-linking system. 

Their standout feature is excellent flowability, allowing them to fill large component tolerances, uneven surfaces, and gaps. Often applied “wet-on-wet” during assembly, they are ideal for sensitive electronic assemblies. 

Their very low thermal resistance ensures efficient heat transfer from the component to the heat sink, optimizing operational safety and performance.

GFL vs. Thermal Paste and Gap Pads

Gap filler liquids offer specific advantages over other TIMs:

  • GFL vs. Thermal Paste: Unlike non-curing pastes, GFLs cure into a flexible elastomer, offering better mechanical resilience and tolerance to CTE mismatch. 
  • GFL vs. Gap Pads: GFLs conform to complex geometries and are often more cost-effective due to better material utilization. However, pads are easier to apply manually. 

Application & Processing

KERATHERM® GFLs are available in various packaging formats: 

  • Dual cartridges: 50 ml, 200 ml, 400 ml, 1200 ml – for manual or semi-automatic application 
  • Cans: 0.5 kg, 1.0 kg – for small batches or manual mixing 
  • Hobbocks: Up to 34.5 kg – for fully automated dispensing in mass production 

Application can be manual (pneumatic/electric dispensers) or automated. A homogeneous 1:1 mix is essential. KERAFOL® supports this with a color indicator for visual mixing control.
